Cosmetic
Acupuncture
According to Chinese medicine,
wrinkles begin internally from a weakness and imbalance of Qi. Qi circulates throughout the body
within a series of pathways called meridians. Qi provides nourishment, support and
energy to the entire body. As
we get older, Qi becomes weaker and is less able to support the muscles and
skin, over time causing wrinkles and sagging.
Cosmetic acupuncture is an
effective, non-surgical treatment that can reduce the signs of aging.
Cosmetic acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin disposable needles
into the acupuncture points on the face and body. Superficial insertion
directly in areas where wrinkles, blemishes, discoloration can increase Qi
and blood circulation and stimulate collagen production, which can help
fill out fine lines and give firmness to the skin for a healthy, glowing
complexion.
The patient is also treated
‘constitutionally’ to address any root causes that might be
manifesting on the face…things such as stress, poor digestion and
hormones can affect the complexion and countenance causing lines, dark
circles, puffy eyes, etc. Herbs
can also be used to help tonify from the inside – they not only can
help improve the complexion, but also can greatly improve overall sense of
well-being. Cosmetic acupuncture can also brighten the eyes, keep acne
under control and moisturizes the skin from the inside.
A 1996 report in the international
journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with
acupuncture for skin rejuvenation, 90% has marked effects with one course of
treatment. The effects included: more delicate skin, improvement of
elasticity of facial muscles and tone, brighter complexion, and overall
rejuvenation.
